National Creativity Day: Exploring Creative Ideas for Mental Health Benefits

Have you noticed there is almost a new celebration each day?. Some of the topics are quirky and others very important reminders of making the best of every moment we have and to spend time with our families and friends.

One of my favourite days to celebrate is NATIONAL CREATIVITY DAY

Founded in 2018 by Hal Croasmu to encourage people to keep creating whether it be a group of friends who have got together for a catch up or professional artists it is marked on the 3oth May each year as a day to let the creatives ideas flow.

Is creativity just pencils, pens and paint?

Not at all – creative inspiration extends to music, poetry, spoken word, dance, cake decorating…the list is endless and is personal to you. What we must not forget is also the mental health aspect of being creative as research has now proven the benefits to reducing stress and anxiety.

“There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns.”

Edward De Bono

If you are looking for something new to explore here are some ideas to inspire you:

Photography: Capture unique moments and scenes around you and experiment with different angles, lighting, and subjects.

Cooking and Baking: Get creative in the kitchen by trying out new recipes and putting your own twist on classic dishes.

DIY Crafts: Explore your artistic side by creating handmade crafts such as jewellery, pottery, or home decor.

Writing: Start a journal, write poetry, or even begin penning that novel you’ve always wanted to write. Try writing with a fountain pen for a little extra flow

Gardening: Design and cultivate your own garden space, embracing the beauty of nature while expressing your creativity.

Music: Learn to play a musical instrument, compose your own songs, or simply enjoy singing and dancing to your favourite tunes.

Remember, creativity knows no bounds, so feel free to explore and experiment with any activity that ignites your imagination!
