Felting workshops for creativity and wellbeing

Join us for fun, friendly and fulfilling workshops to build your creativity with either needlefelting or wet felting. Your tutor Jacqueline’s calm and supportive teaching style will give you the confidence to enjoy the process and be proud of what you create.

Whether you’re using a felting needle or getting stuck into the unpredictability of wet felting techniques you’ll be able to relax while you revel in the texture and colour of natural wool and other fibres.

Needle Felting

So what on earth is Needlefelting, you ask? The short answer – it’s the process of stabbing wool with a barbed needle to make 2d or 3d items, usually a piece of art.

The long answer is that it is a creative practice that is very meditative and great for relieving stress. It’s surprisingly easy to learn when you have good materials, good equipment and a good tutor. You can use needlefelting to mend or add embellishments to clothing. You can create ornaments, brooches, earrings, buttons, necklaces – the limit is really your imagination.

And needlefelting allows you lots of room for creativity, from choosing colours and textures to what you decide create and how you want to finish it.

Wet Felting

So how is wet felting different? As the title suggests this method involves water, along with a fair amount of soap and some good old-fashioned elbow grease to agitate the wool fibres into a piece of fabric, a bowl, bag or maybe a pair of slippers!

Wet felting tends to be a bit more energetic, require a bit more space and it’s a bit messier than needlefelting – so it’s ideal to take a workshop with someone who can get everything set up and cleared up afterwards!

Wet felted items can be a bit more structural, larger and sturdier, but often both wet felting and needlefelting are used in partnership. It’s definitely not an either/or choice!
